MONROVIA, May 31 (LINA) -The General Services Agency (GSA) has completed the construction of 20 public toilets in several communities in the capital Monrovia.

The project, implemented under the “Quick Impact Water and Sanitation Project”, was started February 2014 and completed in May 2014.
It was carried out in collaboration with the Monrovia City Corporation (MCC), Finance Ministry and the Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation (LWSC).
GSA Director General Mary Broh made the disclosure Friday at the close of a meeting of the collaborating agencies of the Quick Impact Water and Sanitation Project held in the conference room of the GSA.
Broth commended members of the committee for their commitment and tireless efforts in ensuring the completion of the project, stressing that she enjoyed working with members of the committee.
Under the project, 12 water kiosks were also constructed, while 583 temporary jobs were created during the construction of the public toilets.
Broh said the committee received US$325,000 to construct 22 toilets, but constructed only 20 toilets at a total cost of US$313,000, while the balance US$12,000 was sent back to government’s coffers.

She, however, promised that the remaining two toilets will be constructed at a later date.
Madam Broth disclosed that the Liberian Government has allotted some funding in the 2014/2015 national budget to build several public toilets across the country.
She said the toilets will be managed by people who will be contracted through a bidding process, and warned that any winner of the bid will be required to keep the toilets clean at all times or risk forfeiting the contract.
In remarks, Mr. Jeremiah Krah, who served as proxy for Finance Minister Amara Konneh, pledged the Finance Ministry’s preparedness to assist the committee with funding for the project.
He said the Finance Ministry was satisfied with the level of work done by the “Quick Impact Water and Sanitation Project” Committee.
