MONROVIA, May 31 (LINA) - Deputy Internal Affairs Minister for Urban Affairs, Amos B. Tweh, is urging Liberians to preserve their cultural heritage, despite its condemnation by the Western world.

Deputy Minister Tweh said culture and tradition play a significant role in uniting people from diverse backgrounds and helps to foster peace and reconciliation among them.

Minister Tweh made the call Friday at a program marking the 50th Anniversary of National Unification Day in Liberia held at the Liberia Chamber Commerce on Capitol Hill in Monrovia.

He noted that in recent times, some civil society organizations have been advocating for the abolition of certain Liberian cultural and traditional practices on the basis of human rights.

He stressed that Westerners have their own cultures and traditions which nobody questions, and hence they should not be allowed to dictate to Liberians about their cultural and traditional practices which have been preserved over the centuries.

Minister Tweh maintained that Liberians should not allow other people to condemn their culture and tradition, but continue to cherish what their forefathers have bequeathed to them.
