MONROVIA, June 5 (LINA) - The Superintendent of the Monrovia Consolidated School System (MCSS), Benjamin Jacobs, has appealed to the teachers association (MCSSTA) to call off its go-slow action.

Jacobs disclosed that the teachers’ demand for payment of retroactive salaries for 90 teachers, which prompted the indefinite go-slow action, is captured in the June pay, noting that there was therefore no need for them to continue the strike action.

According to the Liberia News Agency, Mr. Jacobs made the appeal Thursday in the conference room of the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism (MICAT) at the Ministry’s regular weekly press briefing.

He said since taking over as MCSS Superintendent, he has made it a priority to pay teachers and other staff within the MCSS according to their qualification, saying he was committed to continue this trend.

Mr. Jacobs wondered why MCSSTA members would venture into a strike action in demand of what is already being processed.

He clarified that the decision to settle the teachers' retroactive pay was not made because they are on strike, noting that it was already being processed and hence there was no need to embark on any strike action.

Mr. Jacobs reiterated his call on the MCSSTA members to return to their classes as everything is being done to meet their demands.
