GBARNGA, June 5 (LINA) - District Commissioners in Bong County have validated a five-year United States Agency for International Development (USAID) road rehabilitation and construction plan for the county.

The one-day validation exercise took place on Wednesday in the Gbarnga Administrative Building in Bong County.

The plan is part of USAID’s infrastructure investment as it endeavors to build rural farm-to-market roads in support of its global food initiative, the Food and Enterprise Development (FED) program in the county.

Speaking at the program, Bong County Resident Engineer Emulus Toliver admonished participants to take advantage of the validation exercise as it will guide USAID on how to proceed with its five- year road programs in the county.

In separate remarks, Superintendent Selena Polson-Mappy and some commissioners thanked the American Government for the plan, hailing the fact that it sought their participation and input.

Of the 24 roads assessed in the seven districts in Bong County, participants placed priority on the Bong Mines toYeamah, Suakoko to Yaindewoun Town, Gbatala to Taylor Town to Fenetolee and Weinsue to Kpai roads.

As in the case of Nimba, Lofa, Bassa, Margibi and Montserrado counties, the American Government through USAID, will between 2014 and 2017 construct and rehabilitate more than135 kilometers of roads, 40km of which is already ongoing in the county.
