MONROVIA, August 4 (LINA) -The Executive Director of the Liberia Peace-building Office at the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has disclosed that government has put in place mechanisms to prevent conflict across the country.
Director Wilfred N. Johnson said the anti-conflict platform focuses on three programs which are strengthening the rule of law, promotion of national reconciliation and supporting the security sector reform to prevent conflict among the people.
Director Johnson made the statement over the weekend at the end of a two-day seminar for concession working groups to examine the impact of concession operations in the Mano River Union (MRU) countries held in Monrovia.
He indicated that the Liberia Peace-building office works in partnership with government ministries and agencies as well as civil society organizations to prevent conflict in concession areas in the country.
He pointed out that it is critical to involve ordinary citizens to be part of partners to ensure peaceful co-existence among the people and foreign investors in concession areas.
Director Johnson maintained that depending on the situation leading to the conflict, Liberia Peace-building Office can intervene, but it has a limitation.
The seminar, which was sponsored by Trust Africa, an international NGO, brought together participants from Guinea, Cote d’Ivoire, Sierra Leone and Liberia, the four countries comprising the MRU economic bloc.
