MONROVIA, August 12 (LINA) -The House of Representatives has resolved to invite the Chairman of the National Elections Commission (NEC), Counselor Jerome Korkoya, to answer to charges of procedural error.
Plenary, during its regular session on Tuesday, mandated Chief Clerk, Mildred Sayon, to communicate with Korkoya requesting him to appear before it this week Thursday, August 14, 2014.
According to the Liberia News Agency (LINA), the Lower House reached the decision Tuesday following the reading of a communication from President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, dated August 12, 2014 requesting an early consultation with the House with its position on NEC’s inability to conduct the Special Senatorial Election in October 2014 due to the prevailing Ebola situation.
Deliberating on the communication, the lawmakers said NEC should have first informed them about its inability to conduct the election as scheduled.
Plenary later noted the communication, and concluded not to honor the President’s request until after the appearance of Korkoya before it.
