MONROVIA, February 18 (LINA) - President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf will speak at an event hosted by U.S. Senator Chris Coons (D-Del.) and the U.S. Institute of Peace in the U.S. Senate on February 26.

The speech will come during her first trip to Washington since Liberia’s declaration of a state of emergency over the Ebola outbreak last July, according to a release from the Information Ministry issued Wednesday in Monrovia.

The release noted that President Sirleaf will offer thanks to the American people for their support during the Ebola crisis and to Congress for authorizing funding to help stop the outbreak.

The Liberian leader will also express gratitude to the Administration for its bold deployment to the West Africa region, and aid organizations for coming to the region to care for the infected.

The President will also discuss the need for sustained investment in the region’s public health infrastructure to prevent future outbreaks.
