MONROVIA September 7 (LINA) - Police in Monrovia have begun re-arresting petit criminals who due to overcrowding were released from the Monrovia Central Prison at the end of the March Term of Court.

Deputy Police Director of Police for Operations, Col. Abraham Kromah, said freeing those offenders is hampering the operation of the police because “the same criminals were the ones using police uniforms to carry out armed robbery at night against the peaceful residents of Monrovia.”
According to the Liberia News Agency, Col. Kromah spoke Friday when he appeared on the “Truth FM Breakfast Show”.
Usually, at the end of a term of court, persons accused of minor crimes whose cases have been on the court’s dockets for protracted period without trial are set free by the court.
He noted that these criminals were hiding behind the current curfew to torment the residents of Monrovia, especially in areas where police night patrols are not frequent.
The deputy police director, however, agreed to information that the armed robbers are usually attired in police uniforms, but fell short of saying how the criminals acquire the police uniforms.
