MONROVIA, September 9 (LINA) - Senator Dallas Gueh of Rivercess County says the recent wave of armed robbery in Liberia is troubling and exposes defenseless citizens to wanton suffering.
He is therefore callings on authorities of the Liberia National Police (LNP) to beef up night patrols across the country.
He said unless “criminally-minded" people are treated harshly, they would continue to exploit the Ebola situation to rob peaceful residents of their valuables.
In an interview with the Liberia News Agency on Monday, Gweh pointed out that the Emergency Response Unit (ERU) along with the Police Support Unit (PSU) should incorporate watch teams at community levels to enable them speedily arrest criminals.
The senator said even though he understands that the Ebola virus has created a vacuum in every sector of the government, “that should not be the basis for which people will do things that undermine the government’s ongoing efforts in eradicating the virus.”
He added that the current medical situation is not the government’s creation, and as such, all Liberians should learn and work with the people in these abnormal times and not to inflict continuous hardship by committing armed robbery.
“These are difficult times for the country and its people, and the police must do all to apprehend those hardcore criminals in the communities,” the Senator said.
Meanwhile, Senator Gweh has welcomed the pronouncement by the government adjusting the curfew hours to now run from 11:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
He said with such decision by the government, security entities would be able to effectively curtail the increasing wave of armed robbery across the country.
