(LINA) – Buchanan City Corporation in collaboration with the National Fire Service (NFS) Grand Bassa County branch has decided to remove dealers of gas in containers from the streets of Buchanan and its environs.
The decision was reached in a meeting held Thursday at the Corporation’s head office in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County.
Buchanan City Mayor Julia K. Bono said during the meeting that the city has over the years been overwhelmed with gas sellers; noting that this poses danger to the residents.
“The National Fire Service and other relevant government agencies have strived to remove them from the sidewalks but to no avail. It is now the Corporation’s time to take charge in removing them from the streets, and we will not fail,” Bono noted.
For his part, an official of the NFS, Col. Samuel Wesseh, pledged the institution’s full support to ensure that gas peddlers are removed from the streets.
He observed that the shortage of manpower at the NFS has been a major reason for its failure to remove gas sellers from the streets.
Over the past few months, there have been series of fire outbreaks in and around the City of Buchanan, leaving many families homeless and properties damaged, something many attribute to gasoline that are stored in homes by gas sellers.
