MONROVIA, September 30 (LINA) - Liberia’s Defense Minister Brownie J. Samukai has expressed appreciation to the United States Government for its support to Ebola-affected countries in the West African region.

He particularly praised the role being played by the U.S. leadership which, according to him, signifies that Liberia is not alone the fight against the Ebola virus.

He further praised US Ambassador Deborah Malac for raising the concerns of Liberia to her government, adding: “Stopping the spread of the Ebola Virus Disease is the concern of the Liberian Government right now.”

Meanwhile, Minister Samukai has re-echoed the Commander-in-Chief’s statement that the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) will, as of September, withdraw from the law enforcement supportive role in the country and turn its attention to a more civil-oriented mission in the fight against Ebola.

Minister Samukai made the statement on Tuesday, September 30, when Mr.
Michael Lumpkin, Assistant Secretary of Defense, United States Department of Defense and delegation paid him a courtesy visit at his BTC office in Monrovia.

In remarks, Mr Lumpkin expressed gratitude to the Liberian people through the Minister of National Defense for the warm hospitality accorded him and his delegation.

He thanked the AFL for its support to the U.S. Military which is helping them to be able to respond in an expeditious manner.

According to Mr Lumpkin, “We have come with no fixed solution, but together we can make progress in the fight against the Ebola Virus Disease.”
