MONROVIA October 15 (LINA) - Deputy Information Minister for Technical Services, Robert Kpadeh, has called on journalists to exhibit the spirit of nationalism when providing information to the public.
Kpadeh said in the midst of the difficulties facing journalists in the field, media practitioners are required to uphold ethical and professional standards as journalism is a noble profession.
He made the statement when he supervised a one-day working session for MICAT assigned journalists at the Ministry of Information in Monrovia on Wednesday.
According to him, the one-day working session was intended to enlighten journalists about ethical requirements needed to be portrayed in the discharge of their duties.
“Many journalists have demonstrated a spirit of nationalism in the country’s Ebola fight; though we can be critical of government at times, but we also have the responsibility to protect the country, because we are also part of it,” Kpadeh emphasized.
Kpadeh pointed out that while it is important for journalists to be curious and relentless in finding out facts on a story, they are also expected to keep a national spirit by maintaining the tranquility of the state.
“It is forbidden and unethical for a reporter to fabricate a story just to satisfy personal egos or interest of others irrespective of views and political affiliation, journalists are under obligation to report stories that present the facts,” Kpadeh stressed.
