BUCHANAN, October 17 (LINA) - The Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has distributed equipment and medical supplies to several hospitals and clinics in Grand Bassa County.
The supplies include an ambulance, 300 Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs), surgical gowns and gloves.
The Head of the Grand Bassa County Health Team(C HT), Dr. Joseph L. Kerkula, told reporters Thursday that the materials were turned over to the CHT recently for distribution to hospitals and clinics in the county.
Dr. Kerkula, however, indicated that though the donation is important in the fight against the Ebola virus, the issue of hazard pay for health workers assigned at Ebola Treatment Units (ETUs) is also crucial.
The Ministry of Finance has already started disbursement hazard pay to designated health workers for the month of September.
Kerkula thanked health workers in the county for the level of commitment they have shown since the outbreak of the Ebola virus.
“The authorities who came to Grand Bassa to see how we are handling the Ebola issue, left with good testimony that Bassa is one county that has all of its medical facilities fully functional,” he noted.
Kerkula emphasized that health facilities in Bassa were also carrying out some routine services, while catering for Ebola patients.
