MONROVIA, December 4 (LINA) - The Acting National Chairman of the Alliance for Peace and Democracy (APD), Cllr. Joseph Jallah, has said petitions against the mid-term senatorial election are “unacceptable and counter-productive.”

On Friday, November 28, the Supreme Court of Liberia issued a Stay Order on the pending mid-term Senatorial Election which emanated from a petition filed by the Movement for Progressive Change (MPC) and a group calling itself “eminent citizens.”

Addressing a news conference yesterday in Monrovia, Cllr. Jallah said there is “no rationale for a national conference when as a matter of fact the people have spoken through their representatives in the National Legislature.

“Their voices were echoed loudly through a Joint Resolution of the of the Legislature mandating the National Elections Commission (NEC) to conduct the mid-term Senatorial Election on December 16, 2014.” Jallah pointed out.

Cllr.Jallah further said the Petitioner’s reference to the Ebola outbreak, as a justification for cancelling the election, is “illogical and baseless”, stressing that facts available suggest that this process can be conducted with adherence to the safety measures provided by the WHO, Centers for Disease Control and the Ministry of Health.
