ZWEDRU, December 16 (LINA) – A group calling itself “Concerned Citizens of Grand Gedeh County” on Monday took to the streets of Zwedru, calling on the National Elections Commission to transfer its newly assigned elections Magistrate, Mr. Willie Tompoe from the county.

The group led by Isaac G. Kai, alleged that Magistrate Tompoe is involved in some electoral irregularities which may mar the entire process, if he is not replaced immediately.

Presenting their petition to the Administrative Assistant to Superintendent Peter Solo at the administrative building in Zwedru Monday, the group urged the county authority to look into their grievance promptly and find an amicable solution to it.

In response, the Administrative Assistant, Olaska W. Bark , urged the concerned citizens to channel their grievances through the appropriate authorities and to obtain a permit from the Ministry of Justice Grand Gedeh detachment before taking to the streets.

He pointed out that anything short of that will be tantamount to taking the law into their own hands.

In a related development, at least one supporter of senatorial aspirant Zoe Emmanuel Pennue died while 25 others Monday sustained serious injuries when the vehicle they were travelling in somersaulted in a ditch near the party’s headquarters in Zwedru. The supporters were on their way to meet their candidate when the accident occurred.

The victims were later rushed to the Martha Tubman Memorial Hospital in Zwedru where they were admitted.
