MONROVIA, December 18 (LINA)-Liberia’s Vice President, Joseph Nyumah Boakai, has urged craftsmen in the country to improve the quality of goods they produce so that they can meet the standard of international markets.
He said; “now is the time to leverage this stage and help bolster the national economy of Liberia by producing value added goods that engender employment opportunities.”
Vice President Boakai made the call Thursday in his remarks at the official launch of the Made in Liberia Trade Store held at the Nancy Doe Market on Third Street in Sinkor.
He encouraged Liberian craftsmen to be particularly keen on quality in whatever goods they produce, noting that this would motivate consumers to patronize their businesses.
VP Boakai also indicated that the challenges Liberians have had to endure as a nation and the turbulence the country has encountered as a result of the Ebola outbreak cannot be underestimated.
He then lauded the efforts of the Ministry of Commerce for the initiative which, he observed, is aimed at enabling indigenous entrepreneurs to build their capacities and expand their reach in the marketing realm, stressing that “these events serve as both reminder and assurance that Liberia is continuing to move forward.”
“This Government has demonstrated full cognizance of its responsibility to foster an environment in which business thrives but, there is still a lot to be done”, VP Boakai added.
Also speaking at the occasion, Commerce Minister Axel Addy appealed to Liberians and foreign residents to patronize Liberian businesses, especially locally produced furniture.
Minister Addy observed that buying from local producers would help in the rebuilding process of the country and boost the national economy.
