MONROVIA, January 22 (LINA) – Finance Minister Amara Konneh has said the two-day Cabinet Retreat held in Bomi County was the ‘most productive’ in recent times.
He said the retreat did a retrospect of government’s policies and actions since 2006 and found that progress had been made in the face of ever emerging needs.
Minister Konneh made the statement Thursday at the opening of a two-day multi-stakeholder forum to constitute a National Governing Council to oversee the local activities of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM).
Konneh is Chair of the APRM Inter-ministerial Committee of Focal Points and the Liberia Focal Point of the mechanism which fosters policies, standards and practices leading to stability, economic growth, sustainable development and accelerated sub-regional and continental economic integration.
The Finance Minister noted that the retreat discovered that midway into the President’s second term, “we still need to do more because the country is so fragile that every two to three years something new crops up to cause set back.”
Konneh cited recent developments when the economy was growing and the Ebola virus hit the country, noting: “Thank God the country did not collapse.”
“Community involvement in curbing the Ebola virus tells us what can happen when we do not leave everything to government alone to solve,” he said.
