MONROVIA, October 29 (LINA) - World Bank Liberia Country Manager, Inguna Dobraja, has pledged the institution’s continued support to strengthen the public procurement process in Liberia.

Speaking at the launch of the Public Procurement and Concessions Commission (PPCC) Strategic Plan in Monrovia Tuesday, Dobraja noted that such support was necessitated by the loss of institutional capacity and human capital across many sectors in Liberia as a result of the 14-year civil conflict.

“This Strategic Plan,” she added, “is just one example of such support; we want to assure the Government of Liberia that we will continue to be very active in supporting procurement capacity building and strengthening of the procurement profession in the Civil Service.”

Dobraja indicated that the World Bank's twin goals of ending poverty and boosting shared growth are aligned towards the Government of Liberia's Agenda for Transformation and its Partnership Strategy, ensuring coherence in the national and institutional development agenda.

Before launching the plan, the World Bank had already provided support to the PPCC, including the creation of the procurement regulations, establishment of a robust procurement monitoring and compliance system and training of procurement specialists.
