MONROVIA, November 17 (LINA) - The Chairman of the National Elections Commission (NEC), Jerome Korkoyah, has disclosed that 2,600,040 ballot papers have arrived in the country from Ghana for the impending special senatorial polls.

He said the ballots arrived Friday at the Roberts International Airport and are currently in secure storage under the protection of state security.

Addressing a press conference in Monrovia Monday, Korkoyah unveiled that the deployment of the elections paper and other sensitive materials to the 1,780 polling precincts in the country will begin on December 13.

According to him, the commission’s scope of operations is based on the resolution passed by the National Legislature in mid-August mandating NEC to hold elections no later than December 20.

Korkoyah noted that though the National Legislature has not formally notified the body about any decision on the proposed December 16 segmented elections, the commission will proceed to undertake prerequisite electoral activities.

Upon receipt of said proposal, the House of Representatives accepted the proposed date while the Liberian Senate rejected it and set up a conference committee to discuss the two decisions.
