ZWEDRU, November 19 (LINA) - The Southeastern Regional commander of the Emergency Response Unit (ERU) of the Liberia National Police, Sgt. Andrew Sando, has vowed to take punitive action against any officer caught in extortion and bribery.
Sgt. Sando’s warning comes in the wake of complaints of alleged corrupt acts against members of the ERU assigned at the Cestos Bridge which borders Grand Gedeh and Nimba Counties.
Sando said his office has received no written or verbal complaints against any of his men relative to receiving bribes or extorting money from drivers and passengers.
He, however, assured the county authorities that drastic action will be taken against any ERU officer caught in such unwholesome act.
Information about extortion and bribery among the ERU members necessitated the meeting called by the county authorities to address the issue.
The meeting brought together a cross-section of stakeholders, including security agencies like the Bureau of Immigration and Naturalization, National Security Agency, Liberia National Police and Drug Enforcement Agency.
