MONROVIA, November 19 (LINA) - President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has pledged to endorse Ebola preventive measures to be announced by the Ministry of Health November 20 as guide during the conduct of the Special Senatorial Elections.

She noted that the preventive measures are intended to safeguard the lives of Liberians during the election process and as such, she has no other alternative but to fully support them.

The president made the statement in a nationwide address Wednesday on the eve of the launch of campaign for the Special Senatorial Election in Monrovia.

President Sirleaf said the pending election is important but will be held during a “very difficult period due to the fact that the deadly Ebola virus is still posing a serious health problem to the Liberian people.”

She said it will be necessary for Liberians to conduct themselves during the time of political campaigning in accordance with tsafety measures and recommendations from the health ministry to prevent the resurgence of the epidemic.

She also announced that the National Election Commission will announce its own measures to guide the political process relative to the Ebola virus.

“While we are sustaining our democracy, we have decided to put in place measures to protect us all; therefore, in consultation with partners and political parties the Election Commission will issue guidelines that we must abide by,” President Sirleaf said.
