MONROVIA, November 24 (LINA) -The 53rd National Legislature has proposed a US$2.7 million package to expand the Capitol Building. Funding for the proposal, which is subject to presidential approval, was contained in the National Budget for fiscal year 2014/2015 submitted last week to the Executive for approval by the President.

The Capitol Building was constructed in 1964 when Liberia had five counties under the regime of President William V.S. Tubman.

The building retained its design until the 52nd legislature accepted a renovation effort sponsored by the United States government, which turned the packing area into offices.

Since then, nine more legislative seats have been created, making seating for lawmakers a critical issue, which the expansion seeks to address.
