MONROVIA, December 4 (LINA) - President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has called for the implementation of the government decentralization policy by ministries and agencies to enhance basic social services in rural Liberia.

She observed that although some ministries have been be able to decentralize their offices in some counties, there is still room for improvement for basic social services such as roads, schools and hospitals to reach the people.

The Liberian leader made the statement Thursday at a high-level roundtable decentralization implementation forum for government ministries and agencies held at the Monrovia City Hall.

She noted that the County Development Fund and Social Development Fund were intended to facilitate local development projects in the various counties, which so far have not achieved the anticipated result.
She stressed that decentralization should be practical to strengthen the social and economic development of the rural parts of Liberia.

President Sirleaf hoped that the coming years of her administration will decentralize government projects to make them effective in providing the necessary services for the people.

The implementation and decentralization forum was organized by the Governance Commission in collaboration with the Ministry of Internal Affairs, gathering government officials and international partners to ensure effective implementation of the decentralization policy of government.
