VOINJAMA, December 9 (LINA) - Residents of the New Life Community in Voinjama city, Lofa County, have embarked on the construction of a road in the community on self-help basis.

The self-help road project is intended to ensure free movement in and out of the community that hosts more than 3,000 residents.

In an interview with the Liberia News Agency at the project site Monday, residents of the community said the road leading to the community has been in a deplorable state for the past three years.

A former Lofa County Education officer and elder of the community, Mr. Augustus Y. Smith, said when completed, the project will bring relief to the residents.

Smith said the deplorable condition of the road which the residents have lived with since 2011, has made the community inaccessible; something which, he said, has brought serious economic hardship to residents, as motorcyclists are charging them exorbitantly.

Mr. Smith did not disclose the cost of the project, but said youths of the community have agreed to provide labor for the road project, while the elders have agreed to provide food and tools.

According to him, the community members through personal contributions have already purchased culverts to be used for the
rehabilitation of bridges on the road.

He extolled the youth and elders for their cooperation and understanding.
