MONROVIA, December 12 (LINA) –Justice Minister-designate Benedict Sarnor has appealed to the National Legislature for increased budgetary appropriation for the justice system to strengthen the integrity and character of employees.
According to the Liberia News Agency, Sarnor did not say how much increment was needed, but noted that the money will also be used to support the police-community partnership and train officers in the use of non-lethal weapons.
Sarnor made the appeal when he appeared before the Senate Committee on Judiciary for confirmation hearings Friday.
“You should not be comparing the security sector with any other ministry or agency during budget hearings, because when hell breaks loose, everyone will look up to us for protection”, he told the committee.
Sarnor also indicated that he will collaborate with all branches of government to re-affirm the protection of individual and national rights, which he said, forms the basis of good governance.
Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Joseph Nagbe has assured the nominee that his team will do what is in the interest of Liberia and get to him via the nominating authority.
