MONROVIA, December 16 (LINA) - The 53rd National Legislature has extended its Third Regular Session for an additional week. The session which began Saturday, December 13, and is expected to end on Friday, December 19.

The one-week extension of the legislative session came through a proclamation issued by President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.

According to a Foreign Ministry release issued Monday evening, the Presidential Proclamation was issued upon receipt by the President of a certificate signed by more than one-fourth of the total membership of each House of the Legislature in line with Article 32 (b) of the
Liberian Constitution.

Article 32 (b) of the Liberian Constitution requires that “when the extension or call is at the request of the Legislature, the Proclamation shall be issued not later than forty-eight hours after receipt of the certificate by the President."
