SANNIQUELLIE, December 22 (LINA)- A report from Nimba County says eight persons have reportedly died of the Ebola virus in the town of Teo on the Guinean-Liberian border, while a Liberian girl who contracted the virus in the same region has been admitted at the Ganta Ebola Treatment Unit (ETU).
The Ebola Media Coordinator of Nimba, Mr. Paul K Karnue, told the Liberia News Agency (LINA) in Nimba on Saturday, December 20 that the young Liberian, Janet Tokpah was residing in the border Town of Teo where the virus has reportedly killed eight persons.
According to report, the girl, 16, fled with her mother from Guinea to Area âKâ in Yekepa a week ago, after showing signs and symptoms of the virus in the neighboring Guinean Town.
The Nimba Ebola Media Coordinator told LINA that after Janet was confirmed of the virus on Friday, she was admitted at the Ganta Ebola Treatment Unit (ETU).
Meanwhile, The head of the County Health Team, Dr. Collins Boah, disclosed that the Ebola Contact Tracing Team has quarantined 58 persons residing in Area âKâ in Yekepa where Janet lived before being taken to the Ganta ETU.
The LINA Nimba Correspondent said Liberians in the border Town of Teo are pulling out and heading for Liberia for fear of contracting the virus.
At the same time, according to Karnue, the local government is appealing to the Liberia National Police (LNP) and the Bureau of Immigration and Naturalization (BIN) to reinforce border security measures to stop escapees entering into the county illegally.
