The Ministry of Education has postponed the reopening of schools from February 16 to March 2, 2015.
The Ministry in a release said the decision to move the opening of schools from February to March is in respond to several appeals made by parents and school administrators.
“The public is hereby informed that due to numerous appeals from school administrators, parents and other stakeholders, the commencement of classes has now been scheduled for Monday 2, 2015,” the released added.
“Meanwhile, school authorities are urged to complete all outstanding orientation activities for teachers and students including refresher and Ebola Training workshops,” the release continued.
The ministry has called on school authorities to honor the new date as they prepare for the reopening of schools across the country.
The Ministry decision comes in the wake of a three-page report recently released by the National Legislature which called for the postponement of the reopening of schools from February 16 to March 2 2015.
The House of Representatives Committee on Education argued in the report that previous date of February 2 set by the Ministry of Education for the reopening of schools in the country was not feasible because much work needs to be done by school administrators before the resumption of classes.
The Committee cited the renovation of public schools and refresher training workshops for teachers and other school workers require time and resources.
The Government of Liberia in 2014 ordered the closure of schools across the country as part of measures to fight the deadly Ebola virus that hard-hit the West African nation.
Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea were hard-hit by the incurable disease that swept through West Africa and has killed about 8, 000 persons and infected over 20,000 others.
