The House of Representatives has voted unanimously to invite the Director General of the Civil Service Agency (CSA), George Werner and the Minister of Labor Neto Lighe to explain plan by the government to terminate the services of Civil Servants considered “non-essential”.
The lawmakers reached the decision Tuesday following the reading of a letter from Maryland County Representative Bhofal Chambers to House Speaker J. Alexander Tyler requesting the Plenary to invite the CSA Director General George Werner and Labor Minister Neto Lighe, on the issue.
According to the Liberia News Agency, after a heated debate on the issue, the Deputy Speaker and Presiding Officer, Hans Barchue, instructed the Chief Clerk to write the two officials to appear before Plenary on Tuesday, October 28.
CSA Director General Werner appeared before the Liberian Senate last Thursday and confirmed that there is a plan to lay off about 30,000 civil servants who he referred to as “non-essentials”.
