MONROVIA, Nov 1 (LINA) - Bomi County Senator Sando Johnson has called on members of the Liberian Senate to invite acting Justice Minister Benedict Sarnor and the Commissioner of Immigration, Lemuel Reeves, to provide clarity about the reported release of two convicted Lebanese nationals from custody.
Edmund Dib Kassabli, 81, and his son, Anthony Kassabli, 44, were on December 31, 2013 convicted of multiple offenses, including rape, human trafficking, migrant smuggling, felonious restraint and illegal possession of fire arms.
Johnson’s call was contained in a letter addressed to the plenary of the Senate on Thursday, October 29, 2014.
“What is troubling is that the two convicts were released on bail when rape and human trafficking are among crimes that are non-bailable offenses under the laws of Liberia”, Senator Johnson pointed out.
Following the reading of the communication by the Secretary of the Senate, Nanborlor Singbe, the plenary voted to mandate the committees on Defense and Judiciary to review the document and advise the body in a week.
