Senate Defers Confirmations Report

MONROVIA, December 12 (LINA) –The Liberian Senate on Thursday deferred the hearings of reports from several committees due to what it termed, “delay in the circulation” of the reports.

The decision was taken following a motion raised by Montserrado County Senator Joyce Musu Freeman Sumo calling for the postponement to its next sitting, which received unanimous support by the plenary,

The Senate’s rule calls for the circulation of documents in 24 hours to each of its 30 members before its discussions by the plenary of the
Senate.

Already, a motion of reconsideration was placed by Gbarpolu County Senator Theodore Momo on the confirmation of officials nominated to
the Public Works Ministry.

Reports that were expected to be discussed included the confirmation of the Assistant Minister of Finance and Development Planning designate, Augustine K. Blama; Assistant Labor Minister designate for administration, Moriah Yeakula; Assistant Minister for Trade Unions, Emmett Crayton, and for Standards, Marion Wreh.

Others included Deputy and Assistant Foreign Ministers for Foreign Affairs and Afro-Asian Affairs, Elias Shoniyin and Rosetta Nagbe Jackollie; as well as Deputy and Assistant Commerce Ministers designate for Administration, Small Business Administration, Franz Sawyer, Andrew G. Paygar-Flangiah and Pewee Redd respectively, as well as confirmation for local government officials.
