MONROVIA, December 15- President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has thanked religious leaders and their congregations for continuously praying for Liberia and its people.
“I ask us all to keep the faith, to continue to trust in God to do what is right, for I know he’s going to pour his blessings upon us. He’s going to bring us peace and he will ensure that his aspirations will be done,” she said.
According to an Executive Mansion release, the Liberian leader made the commendation during the ninth edition of the national tarry at the Dominion Christian Fellowship Center Central Church in the Monrovia suburb of Oldest Congo Town on Friday, December 12.
Since April 11, the Center has held series of tarries praying for peace in the country and this was the last tarry for the year 2014.
The next tarry will be on January 9, 2015.
The Bishop of the Center, Dr. Isaac S. Winker, Sr., urged Liberians to be an example of peace by remaining peaceful and stable. He admonished President Sirleaf and all Liberians to continue to praise God for his bountiful blessings on the nation.
During the prayer service, Bishop Winker, Bishop Dr. George Harris and Rev. Mother Davietta Tarnue offered special prayers for President Sirleaf and the nation.
Meanwhile, the Liberian leader at the weekend participated in the opening of the Henry Yallah Unification Market in Kpainkpa’s Town, lower Montserrado County.
The market, which is the initiative of Bong County Senator Henry Yallah and former president of the Liberia Marketing Association, Mother Geneva Koffa, seeks to enhance the social economic conditions of marketers and create an alternative market that will alleviate overcrowding, traffic congestion and environmental degradation at the Red Light Market. It market area covers a total of 9.7 acres of land leased for 30 years.
Speaking during the program, President Sirleaf thanked Senator Yallah and Mother Koffa for the initiative. She pledged US$1,000 to the
project. She later led a rally which raised additional funds to begin the project.
The area surrounding the market was also purchased for the construction of stores, clinic and a hospital. The land also includes space for the construction of a school and playground for the children of market women.
An additional area has been earmarked for garbage collection, waste disposal, the erection of parking lots and a bus terminal.
