Rape Court Statistics: 20 Convicted, 16 Acquitted

Criminal Court 'E' has convicted 20 people and acquitted 16 others since its establishment in 2009 as a 'Special Court to prosecute sexual violence cases here.

The court release the data today, saying that out of 37 cases that came before it for trial, 12 were convicted and 16 freed and one survived due to a hung verdict.

According to the court statistics, February Term of 2014 recorded three cases with two convictions and one acquittal.

The August Term of 2012 recorded seven cases of which two were throw out of court due to lack of evidence and five persons were convicted.

During the month of February of the same year, eight cases were heard of which three persons were slapped with a guilty verdict and five were acquitted on the same crime.

The court data also reveals that the same number of cases that were tried in the February and August Terms of court for 2011.

Both Terms concluded with six cases and as the result three were convicted while the rest were set free in keeping with the law.


In February and August of 2010 a total of eight cases were brought before Criminal Court 'E' for hearing.

The February Term saw five trials and convicted two persons, one hung verdict, one acquittal and one dismissal.

August Term saw all the three defendants that appeared before court leaving freely as result of the state prosecutors’ failure to prove their case beyond all reasonable doubt in keeping with legal practice.

In February of 2009, the day Criminal Court 'E' was inaugurated as a special court to prosecute rape cases, four cases were tried with two guilty and two not guilty verdicts.

August of the year same saw one case, a guilty verdict.
