MONROVIA January 17 (LINA) - Over 1,000 residents of Lonfaye Town and its environs in Margibi County have completed more than 21 days of quarantine imposed by government in December 2014.
The quarantine was the result of wake-keeping and funeral rites over a dead Ebola victim whose corpse was transported from Montserrado County to Lonfaye Town.
Although the town experienced two deaths during the quarantine, health authorities told the Liberia News Agency (LINA) at the ceremony Friday that the deaths were not Ebola-related.
The people quarantined were provided basics such as food, Ebola preventive materials and daily psycho-social counseling by the county health authorities as well as local and international partners.
Commenting at the ceremony, Deputy Information Minister Isaac Jackson noted that the Lonfaye Town quarantine has set a new stage in the country’s health crisis as residents of the town and its surroundings voluntarily complied with government throughout the quarantine period.
