ZWEDRU, September 23 (LINA) -The County Supervisor for SOCODEVI, a Canada-based agro organization, has said all is on course to implement its mandate in Grand Gedeh County.

SOCODEVI was recently contracted by the Ministry of Agriculture to develop the cocoa and coffee sector in Bong, Grand Gedeh and Nimba counties.

Mr. Maxwell Juwor told the Liberia News Agency Monday in Zwedru that SOCODEVI will shortly begin its pilot project in Gainbo, New Pohan, Janzon and Banana village in Tchien and Cavalla districts in Grand Gedeh County.

He said the Ministry of Agriculture identified the four cocoa and coffee growing communities in the county for a pilot phase of the project to be extended if all goes well.

He said at present the entity is working with farmers to rehabilitate old farms before embarking on new planting.

“With a staff of six, the project is working with others in the area to ensure massive farming and cocoa growing as the nation moves towards responding to world market demands,” he added.

When contacted, the county agriculture coordinator, Mr. Suah Mulbah, confirmed the entity’s terms of reference and said as soon as the Ebola epidemic is brought under control, a field trip will be made to assess the impact of the project.
