MONROVIA, April 14 (LINA) -An Association of Foya citizens based in Monrovia has confirmed the presence of the Ebola virus in the district and disclosed that the
disease has claimed the lives of four Foya citizens, two males and two females.
They made the disclosure Saturday when members of the association gathered at the home of Defense Minster Brownie J. Samukai to brief him on the current Ebola situation in Lofa County, with Foya being the epicenter.
According to a press release issued in Monrovia Monday, the Yegbedu Bonguama United Association further informed Minister Samukai that what is troubling is the simultaneous and sudden death of the two medical personnel, Remoson Landin, a Physician Assistant and James Daa, a Registered Nurse on April 4 & 5, 2014 at the Foya Health Center.
Meanwhile, the Association has thanked the government through the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare for its timely intervention and sensitization in curbing the pandemic that has the propensity to claim many lives.
The Association further briefed Minister Samukai that about 21 persons are currently under surveillance, particularly those who buried the health workers on the highway.
For his part, Minister Samukai thanked his kinsmen for showing concern for their families back home in Foya District, as well as their solidarity with the Ministry of Health in spreading the Ebola information.
The Defense Minister told his kinsmen that he is being briefed on a daily basis by the District and County leaderships and sees no reason why some individuals still doubt the existence of the Ebola Virus in Liberia.
Defense Minister Samukai encouraged his kinsmen to pay keen attention to the sensitization and awareness being put forth to the public, and urged his citizens to join the Ministry of Health’s sensitization effort to stop the spread of Ebola disease.
