FOQUELLEH, May 1 (LINA) - Bong County District Number Four Representative, Lester Paye, has donated 30 bundles of zinc to disaster victims in Panta District, Bong County.

On the night of Friday, April 18, 2014, the roofs of over 35 houses were blown away by a heavy storm that hit the area.

Presenting the zinc to the disaster victims Wednesday in Foquelleh Town, a staff in the office of Representative Paye, Mr. Johnson Kolleh, said the donation was the lawmaker’s way of helping the citizens to rebuild their shattered lives.

He admonished the citizens to make maximum use of the zinc and consider giving priority to those most affected by the storm, assuring that additional assistance was being sought.

Five of the 30 bundles of zinc were given to citizens of nearby Moigan Town also in Panta District.

In separate remarks, Elders Henry Paye, Sumo Thomas and Joseph T. Flomo thanked Representative Paye for responding to their SOS call.

According to them, though their needs are many, they will ensure the proper use of the donation.

The citizens used the occasion to call on government, humanitarian and non-governmental organizations, including the Liberia National Red Cross, to come to their rescue and help them to rebuild their lives.

In its quest to manage disaster-related issues in the country, the government of Liberia in February this year, validated a disaster management and response document in Gbarnga City, Bong County.

The validation workshop brought together development superintendents and county inspectors from across the country.
