MONROVIA, January 13 (LINA)-The Speaker of the House of Representatives, J. Alexander Tyler, has vowed to persuade his colleagues to see reason to make budgetary appropriation for  the Liberian Media.

Tyler indicated that the money would be used to sponsor the training of media practitioners in election reporting to be conducted by the National Elections Commission (NEC).

According to the Liberia News Agency, Speaker Tyler made the vow Monday during the official opening of the 4th Session of the 53rd National Legislature at the Capitol Building.

In his statement at the program, Speaker Tyler congratulated the Media for the professional manner in which they covered the Mid-Term Senatorial Election conducted on December 20, 2014.
“Indeed, you are the Watchdog of our democracy, the harbinger of the new Liberia and the heroes in the quest for honesty, integrity and fair play in electoral politics,” Tyler emphasized.

He noted that without smart phones or laptops or other sophisticated gadgets used by the Western Media and without any immediate pecuniary dividends to the Media, they labor in the rain, in stress and strain and many other difficult conditions to ensure that only the truth about the election goes out.
