WHO Donates Items For Ebola Fight

MONROVIA, April 5 (LINA) - The World Health Organization (WHO) has donated several items to the Liberian Government through the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare to help in the fight against the Ebola outbreak in the country.

According to WHO Country Director, Dr. Nester Ndayimirije, the donation is a huge consignment of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to help strengthen the response to the spread of the Ebola virus in the country.

Dr. Ndayimirije, who presented the items Friday at the Ministry of Health in Congo Town on behalf of the WHO, hailed the Liberian Government for being swift and robust in handling the situation, and promised additional consignment shortly.

The items donated  by the WHO included 1,699 pieces of Coverall, 11,500 pieces of utility gloves, 60 pieces of body bags, 108 pieces of spray for cleaning goggles, 2,450 pieces of surgical gowns, 3,500 pieces of face mask and 470 pieces of gumboots, among others.

Meanwhile, the Acting Chairman of the Cabinet, Internal Affairs Minister Morris Dukuly has thanked the WHO for its continued support in Liberia’s fight against the Ebola disease, and for responding swiftly by donating the PPE to the Health Ministry.

Minister Dukuly also lauded President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf for her involvement and concern to eradicate the Ebola virus in the country, and urged the general public to follow the measures put in place by the health ministry to prevent the spread of the virus.

 He then admonished politicians to stop politicizing the Ebola situation and called on all Liberians to join the fight to rid the country of the disease.

For his part, Health Minister Dr. Walter T. Gwenigale said the intervention of the WHO is timely to help fight the Ebola disease.

Minster Gwenigale said the support of the WHO will go a long way to prevent the spread of the Ebola virus across the country.
