MONROVIA, August 26 (LINA) - The opposition Liberty Party has identified the dissemination of accurate information as key to preventing the spread of the deadly Ebola disease in the country.

According to the Liberty Party, the national effort to prevent the spread of Ebola must be directed towards the provision of timely and accurate information for behavioral change among the people.

In a statement issued Tuesday, the party applauded government’s current efforts to prevent the spread of the disease, but pointed out that information needs to be disseminated in the various communities so that messages will have a direct impact.

The party observed that ignorance about the existence of the disease still persists, and said this is not due to scarcity of messages and sensitization campaigns, but to lack of coordination among the multiple sources that convey messages to the people.

The Liberty Party acknowledged that the current Ebola outbreak in the region is the worst of the disease in history, and as such, government ‘s current course of action in fighting the disease must be assessed and modified based on objective data to adequately address the crisis.

Meanwhile, the Liberty Party has called on government to do all it can to make the fight against the disease successful by speedily providing the needs of the National Task Force and working with international partners and NGOs.
