VOINJAMA, August 27 (LINA) - The World Health Organization-assigned doctor in Lofa County says significant improvement has been made in the fight against the deadly Ebola virus in the county.

Speaking during the week at the Ebola Coordination Update meeting held at the Midwives Association Hall of the Lofa County Health Team (CHT) in Voinjama, Dr. Clement Peter said there is a drop in the number of Ebola cases reported by the Lofa CHT in recent times.

According to the Liberia News Agency, Dr. Peter disclosed that the presence of Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) to help the Lofa CHTin dealing with Ebola-related cases has brought ‘great improvement’ in the fight against the Ebola virus in the county.

Touching on Kolahun District in Lofa County, Dr. Peter noted that reports of increase in new Ebola cases by the CHT has brought a new dimension in the fight against the disease in the county.

According to LINA, the Lofa County Health Officer, Dr. Josephus Borlongie, during an Ebola update meeting, called on members of the CHT and partners to redirect their attention to Kolahun District to combat the new outbreak of the virus there.

Meanwhile, the WHO Lofa County representative has observed that for Ebola to be eradicated in Lofa County, people of the county need to follow three key things.

Dr. Peter named communities being able to understand the Ebola problem and protect themselves; quick removal of suspected Ebola patients from communities and quick burial of Ebola suspected dead bodies.

In a related development, the Friday general market in the provincial capital of Voinjama, video clubs and entertainment centers have been closed in a bid to combat the deadly virus in Lofa County.
