SANNIQUELLIE, September 1 (LINA) -Residents of Karnplay have joined efforts to feed nearly 30 members of a family suspected of contracting the Ebola virus in the town.

Karnplay City Mayor Evelyn Gweh told the Liberia News Agency at the weekend that the family members were quarantined after one of them, a child identified as Josephine Karnuan, was confirmed to have died of the virus.

The rest of the family members are said to have taken care of the teenager when she was sick.

According to Mayor Gweh, over L$25,000 worth of food and non-food items have been donated to the Karnnuan family by community members.

The victim, Josephine Karnnuan and her mother are said to have fled from an Ebola quarantine center in Monrovia about a month ago.

She died at her parents’ residence in Karnplay amidst denial by her family that the ailment Josephine died of was Ebola.

The family has maintained that Josephine died of Measles.

Meanwhile, the City Mayor has disclosed that one of the adults quarantined, Joseph Karnnuan, the chief herbalist of the Gbehlay Geh Administrative District, died on Friday, 29 August 2014, increasing the number of Ebola deaths in Karnplay to two.

A university student leader, Harrison Bouh, said the household is persistently maintaining that the deaths of the two family members cannot be blamed on Ebola.

At the same time, the city mayor is seeking food aid and the immediate intervention of the County Task Force.
