MONROVIA, September 2 (LINA) - At least 58 persons have walked out of treatment centers in Montserrado and Lofa counties from March to September 1, 2014, an official of the Ministry of Health has said.

Of the total number of Ebola survivors, 30 were discharged from ELWA2 Treatment Unit, 10 from the John F. Kennedy Medical Center, while six were discharged from the Foya Treatment Center in Lofa County.

An additional 12 Ebola survivors were September 1discharged from the ELWA Treatment Unit.

The Communication Director of the Ministry of Health, Rev. John Sumo made the disclosure on UNMIL Radio Monday when he appeared as guest on the program Ebola Special.

Rev. Sumo said seven Ebola survivors discharged last week from the ELWA2, included a doctor and a physician assistant who were treated with the experimental drug ZMapp.

According to Sumo, the six survivors from Foya included two people who were previously tested positive but later tested negative after intensive treatment and care.

Sumo said the figure could increase for the month of August pending the tally of the number of survivors from the ELWA3, another treatment center in Montserrado County.

He said with the available statistics, it is clear that more people can walk out of treatment units once they report for treatment early, adding, “The earlier you turn yourself in for treatment, the better chance you stand to survive the virus.”
