TUBMANBURG, September 3 (LINA) – Bomi County Superintendent Samuel Brown has ordered the immediate suspension of the Poro and Sande society activities in the county.

Superintendent Brown said in the wake of the Ebola outbreak in the county, it is necessary to suspend all Poro and Sande activities and concentrate on fighting the disease.

Speaking to the Liberia News Agency in an interview on Monday in Tubmanburg, Brown emphasized that suspending these traditional, cultural activities will enable the people to focus on the prevention of the Ebola virus.

He disclosed that over 50 Poro and Sande centers were operating in the county, and said about 25 percent of them have been closed, and urged the remaining centers to follow suit.

Superintendent Brown said while it is important to preserve the traditions of the nation, it is also important that the people focus on how to prevent the Ebola virus to save lives.

He urged all chiefs, traditional and Poro and Sande leaders as well as youths of the county to join the government in the fight against the Ebola virus in the county.
