MONROVIA, September 17 (LINA) - The Ministry of Transport says it has put in place a passenger log system to facilitate the tracing of passengers in case there is a need to track travelers.

Minister Angela Cassell-Bush said this system is important as it will help government carry on active case finding and tracing of contacts that might be infected with Ebola, but possibly rode on a public transport bus to any of the counties.

Minister Cassel-Bush made the disclosure Tuesday at the Ministry of Information special press conference held in the conference hall of the ministry on Capitol Hill in Monrovia.

According to Minister Bush, the tracking system will prove effective because all information regarding a passenger is captured on the log, something, she noted, will provide the results needed to combat Ebola.

“Since the outbreak, we have announced series of measures and have partnered with driver unions and motorcyclist associations as well as the Federation of Road Transport Union in Liberia and the Independent Mano River Transport Union of Liberia to help enforce the various measures,” she said.

She also named the Port Trucking Union of Liberia and the Liberia National Police as key partners in instituting and enforcing those regulations instituted by the Ministry of Transport.

“The log captures point of origin, destination and contact number of passengers. It also highlights vehicle license plates along with driver’s name and contact information.

“This system is a vital component of union organized inter-county operations that can be utilized as a method to trace contacts,” she added.
