MONROVIA, September 19 (LINA) - The European Union (EU) has pledged direct budgetary support of 280 million Euros to Liberia between 2015-2020 for post-Ebola recovery, the head of the EU delegation to Liberia, Artillio Pacifici, disclosed Friday.

Pacifici said the funds are intended to assist the Government of Liberia recover lost revenues and finances occasioned by the impact of the Ebola crisis.

According to him, the money will also serve as a reserve, not only for the health sector, but with emphasis on governance, energy, infrastructure, access to road networks, and education.

Pacific also named the agriculture sector as a major component of the recovery process, adding that the EU believes that monetary activities to reboot the economic activities should emanate from that sector.

“Food security in all parts of the world is a major challenge that must be addressed adequately in order to provide for the well-being and livelihood of the citizenry”, he added.

Recently, the acting Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Amara Konneh announced that the country will suffer a 3.9 Gross Domestic Product (GDP) decline as a result of the impact of the Ebola crisis.

He further said that the decline will lead to loss of jobs and reverse some levels of poverty reduction, while at the same time serving as a challenge to nation building and the national developmental agenda.
