MONROVIA, September 20 (LINA) - An official of the European Union (EU) has called on Ebola-stricken countries to focus on a robust system that would tackle the disease before it spills to the rest of the world.

“We all make mistakes as humans, but in this fight let’s bring our ideas together to develop a coordinated system that would fast track the disease eradication from the affected West African Nations, said the Deputy Director General for Development Cooperation at the European Commission (EU), Marcus Cornaro.

Cornaro was speaking in an interview Friday following the announcement by the EU of a grant of 140 million Euros as its support in the fight against the deadly virus.

West African countries affected by the Ebola virus are Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Nigeria.

According to the EU official, “this cooperation should take the form of grant and assistance tracking to ensure concurrence between what is practiced and what is promised”.

Cornaro said, the world cannot afford to continually witness the painful deaths Africans go through as a result of the disease, and as such the West African affected countries should work together in managing grants and other aid resources given them in this emergency.

Since the outbreak of the virus in West Africa, the region continues to receive emergency funding and assistances from the international community, including the United States that offered to sent 3,000 troops to help built ETU in Liberia and the World Bank grant of US$105 million to Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia.

Cornaro further said that all partners like EU look forward to the full and prudent accounting of the funds given.
