MONROVIA, September 209 (LINA) -The Ministry of Youth and Sports has deployed more than 150 National Volunteers (NVs) to six counties to provide community development services, including spreading anti-Ebola messages.

The Ministry’s Director of Communication, Nathaniel Paykue, told journalists Friday that the NVs are deployed in Grand Gedeh, Lofa, Bong, Sinoe, Grand Bassa and Maryland counties.

Mr. Paykue said after undergoing a month-long icourse at the Ministry, the administration through its National Youth Service Program (NYSP), early July 2014 began deploying the National Volunteers.

He disclosed that the youth volunteers mainly, University, College, and professional school graduates, will contribute to nation-building through the mentoring of their fellow youth in education, health, public administration, computer literacy, agriculture, leadership, peace building and conflict resolution for a period of one year.

The National Youth Service Program (NYSP) is an up-scaling and modification of the National Youth Volunteers Service’s (NYVS) PilotProject.

Mr. Paykue also explained that the NYSP is building on previous peace building and development interventions with the objective of linking youth leadership and National Service to embrace the peace building development strategy.

He said the project is funded by the peace building fund (PBF-L) and the Government of Liberia with support from UNICEF.

He added that the program falls under the reconciliation component of
the Liberia Peace Building Program (LPP).
