TUBMANBURG September 20 (LINA) - Traditional chiefs and elders of Bomi County have resolved to suspend traditional Poro and Sande schools and discourage traditional practices that could promote the spread of the Ebola virus.

Chairman of the National Traditional Council of Liberia, Chief Zanzan Karwoh, told reporters in Tubmanburg Friday the move is to ensure that the people’s attention is focused on fighting and eradicating the Ebola virus from the country.

Karwoh said he is in the county to monitor the stay order on the operations of Poro and Sande society activities that was imposed by the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

He said his visit was in response to reports that the Poro and Sande Society was still operating in Bomi County, saying “it as an ugly thing to do in the fight against Ebola.”

He urged the traditional chiefs and elders to observe the preventive messages and encourage their people to go to the hospital whenever they are sick.
