MONROVIA, September 21 (LINA) - Maryland County Representative Bhofal Chambers has called on Liberians to take ownership of the fight to eradicate the Ebola virus from the country.

Speaking in an interview with the Liberia News Agency on Saturday, the Pleebo Sodoken lawmaker said he was displeased at reports that that the Ebola burial teams are taking money from bereaved families to remove dead bodies or test them for Ebola.
“Winning the fight against Ebola would be a monumental success for all Liberians and anyone who undermines this fight should be seen as enemy of all,” Chambers said.

“As per my knowledge, no burial team yet has the equipment to test dead bodies for Ebola, and to pretend to do so is putting the entire population at risk,” the Maryland lawmaker pointed out.

“When you unlawfully jeopardize the lives of the population through imaginary health practices that in turn affect the life of individuals,” Chambers noted, “you also violate public health law, and as such you will be dealt with according to the laws of Liberia.”

He asked bereaved families to be cautious and console themselves with the conviction that it will still be possible to succeed afterwards, but this will happen only if they first survive.
